What VESA actually is

VESA patterns step up as screens get bigger, though it is never worth assuming, always worth checking. As a rough map: smaller sets often land around 100x100 or 200x200, mid-size screens around 300x300 or 400x400 (sometimes 400x200), larger screens around 600x400, and the biggest around 800x400. Find the four threaded holes on the back, then measure the horizontal distance between the centres of the left and right holes, and the vertical distance between the centres of the top and bottom holes. Write both down in millimetres, width first, height second, for example 400x300. That pair of numbers is your VESA size, and it is the only spec you need to bring to the decision.

One tip: if there are screws already sitting in those holes, take them out before measuring and keep them somewhere sensible. You will want them, or ones like them, when it is time to mount.
